Arrivée des troupes kényanes et chaos à Nairobi

Un contingent de 400 policiers kényans est, enfin, arrivé dans la capitale ce mardi 25 juin 2024 dans le cadre de la mission de sécurité multinationale mandatée par les Nations Unies pour aider à stabiliser le pays et à lutter contre la violence des gangs.

L’arrivée de ces troupes a été saluée par certains qui espèrent qu’elles apporteront la paix et la sécurité, tandis que d’autres craignent qu’elles ne s’immiscent dans les affaires intérieures du pays et n’alourdissent le mauvais bilan des anciens groupes militaires passés sur notre sol.

En marge de cet événement, des manifestations ont éclaté à Nairobi, au Kenya, pour protester contre de nouvelles taxes proposées par le gouvernement.

Les manifestations ont commencé pacifiquement, mais ont rapidement dégénéré en violence. Des manifestants ont jeté des pierres et des projectiles sur la police, qui a riposté par des gaz lacrymogènes et des balles en caoutchouc.

Certains manifestants ont réussi à déjouer la sécurité et à pénétrer dans l’enceinte du parlement où les députés venaient d’approuver les amendements du nouveau projet de loi fiscal, qui doit être voté d’ici le 30 juin prochain. Les protestaires ont ensuite incendié une partie du bâtiment, ce qui a provoqué de grandes tensions. Au moins cinq (5) personnes ont été tuées et 31 blessées au cours de ces dérapages.

Le gouvernement kenyan a appelé au calme et a promis d’enquêter sur les violences. Les organisations de défense des droits de l’homme ont quant à elles dénoncé le recours excessif à la force par la police.

Ces deux événements mettent en lumière les défis auxquels sont confrontés ces deux pays. Haïti est aux prises avec une grave crise politique et humanitaire, tandis que le Kenya est confronté à des problèmes économiques et sociaux.

L’arrivée des troupes kényanes pourrait contribuer à améliorer la situation sécuritaire dans le pays, mais il est important de s’assurer qu’elles respectent les droits de l’homme et notre souveraineté.
