Pour une presse crédible, que la justice tranche

Depuis plusieurs mois, Djovany Michel multiplie les accusations graves et non étayées contre plusieurs personnalités publiques, ainsi la question de la responsabilité dans l’espace médiatique refait surface. Entre dénonciation légitime et dérives diffamatoires, les risques que font peser de telles pratiques sur le débat démocratique, l’intégrité journalistique et l’État de droit sont considérables dans un pays totalement affaibli comme le nôtre.

Ce lundi 30 juin 2025, une plainte officielle pour diffamation publique a été déposée contre Djovany Michel, journaliste et militant politique. Par cette démarche judiciaire, le journaliste Moïse Jean, l’un des nombreux visés par des accusations publiques, cherche à obtenir justice et à faire la lumière sur ce qu’il qualifie de campagne de calomnie orchestrée et sans fondement.

Depuis plusieurs mois, Djovany Michel multiplie les publications à charge contre des personnalités publiques, notamment Madame Betty Lamy, Fritz Richardson Junior, Walson Sanon, ainsi que plusieurs journalistes qu’il accuse d’être impliqués dans un vaste réseau criminel mêlant trafic d’organes, stupéfiants, contrebande et corruption. Des allégations explosives relayées par le Réseau haïtien des journalistes anti-corruption (RHAJAC), sans qu’à ce jour, aucune preuve formelle n’ait été rendue publique.

Le problème n’est pas la dénonciation en soi, qui demeure un droit fondamental en démocratie, mais l’absence de méthode, de rigueur et surtout de responsabilité. Lorsqu’une accusation publique repose uniquement sur des rumeurs, des déclarations vagues ou des amalgames douteux, elle devient une arme destructrice, un outil de règlement de comptes, un poison dans le débat citoyen.

Dans un contexte où le pays est déjà fragilisé par l’insécurité, la méfiance envers les institutions et la manipulation de masse, ces dérives ne peuvent rester impunies. La plainte déposée ce 30 juin constitue donc un appel à l’équilibre, à la justice et à la vérité. Il ne s’agit pas de museler ceux qui dénoncent, mais de protéger la société contre la désinformation et la diffamation déguisées en journalisme militant.

Aujourd’hui, le ministre de la Justice a entre ses mains une opportunité capitale : redonner à la justice toute sa place dans l’espace public. Il est temps de rappeler que nul n’est au-dessus de la loi, pas même ceux qui prétendent défendre la vérité en s’attaquant aux autres sans preuve.

L’opinion publique doit se mobiliser. Les journalistes intègres, les associations, les citoyens doivent exiger que toute parole publique soit confrontée aux faits, que la justice fasse son travail et que les droits fondamentaux des personnes diffamées soient respectés.

Aujourd’hui plus que jamais, la manipulation de l’opinion ne doit pas remplacer l’État de droit.
