Malgré les sanctions, le Niger ne veut plus de la France

Au Niger, plusieurs milliers de citoyens ont pris la rue ce vendredi 11 août à Niamey près d’une base militaire française pour témoigner leur soutien aux soldats nigériens qui ont réalisé le coup d’état d’il y a deux semaines. Ils en ont aussi profité pour exprimer leur raz-le-bol de la présence française dans leur pays et dénoncer l’attitude de la Communauté Économique des États d’Afrique de l’Ouest vis-à-vis du pays du Sahel.

En effet, la CEDEAO a mis en place depuis le 30 juillet une série de mesures visant à faire flancher le général Abdourahamane Tiani, homme fort du pays depuis le coup. Parmi ces mesures, le Nigéria voisin a décidé de ne plus vendre d’électricité au Niger. Sans parler de la hausse des prix des produits importés.

En plus de ces décisions, les chefs de l’organisation Ouest-africaine envisagent d’envoyer sa troupe en attente en vue de rétablir le président déchu pro-occidentaux, Mohamed Bazoum. Une décision saluée par l’Union Africaine, les États-unis et l’Union Européenne qui prônent tous une résolution pacifique à cette situation. Toutefois, la Russie ne l’entend pas de cette oreille.

“Nous pensons qu’une voie militaire de résolution de la crise au Niger pourrait conduire à une confrontation prolongée dans ce pays africain ainsi qu’à une forte déstabilisation de la situation dans l’ensemble de la région du Sahara et du Sahel”, a indiqué le ministère russe des Affaires étrangères dans un communiqué.

Pour rappel, le Niger est l’un des pays le plus pauvre au monde malgré le fait qu’il possède deux importantes mines d’Uranium fournissant 5% de la production minière mondiale. L’uranium nigérien est exploité par le groupe Orano (Ex Areva), une entreprise française entre autres.
