Lors d’une déclaration officielle ce mercredi 15 janvier 2025, le président américain Joe Biden a annoncé avec fierté la conclusion d’un accord de cessez-le-feu entre Israël et la Palestine. Un pas important dans la quête de paix au Moyen-Orient, après 15 mois de conflit dévastateur qui a coûté la vie à des dizaines de milliers de personnes et plongé Gaza dans le chaos.

Biden a qualifié cette journée de « très bon après-midi », et a exprimé sa satisfaction face à un accord difficilement négocié, mais porteur d’espoir. La première phase de cet accord, qui durera six (6) semaines, prévoit un cessez-le-feu total et complet, le retrait des forces israéliennes de toutes les zones peuplées de Gaza, ainsi que la libération d’un certain nombre d’otages détenus par le Hamas, dont des femmes, des personnes âgées et des blessés. Joe Biden a souligné que les Américains participeront également à la libération des otages lors de cette première phase.

Au cours des six (6) prochaines semaines, Israël négociera les arrangements nécessaires pour obtenir la deuxième phase, qui vise la fin définitive de la guerre. Biden a insisté sur le fait que le chemin vers cet accord n’a pas été facile, qualifiant ces négociations de l’une des plus difficiles de sa carrière en politique étrangère. « Le chemin vers cet accord n’a pas été facile », a-t-il affirmé.

Cet accord a été élaboré et négocié sous l’administration Biden, mais ses termes seront en grande partie mis en œuvre par la prochaine administration, celle de Donald Trump. Les négociations ont été menées avec l’aide des médiateurs internationaux, notamment le Qatar, les États-Unis et l’Égypte. L’accord prévoit un échange d’otages israéliens contre des prisonniers palestiniens détenus par Israël.

À l’annonce du cessez-le-feu, des milliers de Palestiniens ont exulté à travers la bande de Gaza, exprimant leur joie et leur espoir pour un avenir meilleur. Cependant, la question demeure : ce cessez-le-feu tiendra-t-il, alors que le passé a vu de nombreuses violations par l’armée d’occupation.
