Le monde de la musique haïtienne est en deuil. Le chanteur de konpa Joseph Dieudonné Larose est décédé le 9 janvier 2026 au Canada. Son frère, Ernst Larose, a confirmé que l’artiste luttait depuis plusieurs années contre un cancer de la prostate.
Le chanteur haïtien Joseph Dieudonné Larose, figure emblématique du konpa, est décédé le vendredi 9 janvier 2026, aux environs de 2 heures PM, à l’âge de 80 ans, au Québec (Canada), où il recevait des soins médicaux.
La cause de son décès a été confirmée par son jeune frère, Ernst Larose, lors d’une intervention au micro de Radio Télévision Caraïbes, dans l’émission Premye Okazyon, le 12 janvier 2026. Selon ses déclarations, l’artiste est mort des suites d’un cancer de la prostate, une maladie contre laquelle il se battait depuis plusieurs années.
Le cancer de la prostate est une pathologie qui, lorsqu’elle est diagnostiquée à un stade avancé, peut devenir particulièrement agressive. À ce niveau, la maladie se propage souvent à d’autres parties du corps, réduisant considérablement les chances de guérison. Les soins médicaux sont alors principalement orientés vers le soulagement des douleurs et l’amélioration de la qualité de vie du patient. En revanche, lorsqu’il est détecté précocement, ce type de cancer peut généralement être traité avec succès.
Toujours selon les précisions fournies par son frère, Dieudonné Larose avait pris toutes les dispositions nécessaires de son vivant. Il n’a sollicité aucune collecte de fonds, ni auprès de ses proches ni auprès du public. Les funérailles de l’artiste se dérouleront dans la stricte intimité familiale, et aucune date officielle n’a encore été communiquée pour l’inhumation.
Au-delà des circonstances de sa disparition, Dieudonné Larose laisse derrière lui une œuvre artistique remarquable. Né le 5 juin 1945 à Cabaret, dans le département de l’Ouest, il a consacré près de cinquante années à la musique haïtienne.
Chanteur, auteur-compositeur et interprète reconnu, il a collaboré avec plusieurs formations de renom, notamment Shoogar Combo, DP Express et Missile 727. Il est l’auteur de nombreuses chansons devenues des classiques du konpa, parmi lesquelles Accident, Mandela, Jolie Minou et Mission. Sa discographie, riche de plus de 27 albums, témoigne d’une longévité artistique exceptionnelle et d’une contribution majeure à l’évolution et à la popularisation du konpa, tant en Haïti qu’au sein de la diaspora.
Tout au long de sa carrière, Dieudonné Larose a reçu plusieurs distinctions honorifiques saluant son apport à la culture et à la musique haïtiennes. Sa disparition marque la perte d’une voix emblématique du paysage musical national, mais son héritage artistique demeure vivant.
