Hier, mardi 1er août, l’ancien président américain, Donald Trump, a été inculpé, au terme d’une enquête supervisée par le procureur spécial, Jack Smith, pour ses tentatives présumées d’inverser le résultat de l’élection présidentielle de 2020, marquant la troisième inculpation du 45e président des États-Unis.

Considéré comme l’acteur majeur des primaires républicaines pour l’élection de 2024, Trump fait face à des charges de complot à l’encontre de l’État américain, d’entrave à une procédure officielle et d’atteinte aux droits électoraux. L’homme politique de 77 ans est appelé à comparaître ce jeudi 3 août devant le tribunal fédéral de la capitale Washington.

L’annonce de l’inculpation de Donald Trump a été accueillie avec des réactions vives et divergentes. L’ancien locataire de la Maison Blanche avait déjà réagi à cette enquête en la qualifiant de chasse aux sorcières. Il a également accusé ses opposants politiques de faire une utilisation politique de la justice pour le discréditer.

La bataille judiciaire qui s’annonce promet d’être féroce, dont l’issue de cette affaire influencera certainement le futur politique de Donald Trump et pourrait avoir un impact significatif sur la scène politique américaine dans son ensemble.
