Un nouveau coup dur pour la diaspora haïtienne : Washington annonce officiellement la fin du TPS pour Haïti. À compter du 3 février 2026, ceux qui en bénéficiaient devront organiser leur départ ou trouver une alternative légale pour rester sur le sol américain.
Dans une alerte publiée le 26 novembre 2025 sur son site officiel, le Service américain de citoyenneté et d’immigration (USCIS) a annoncé que le Département de la Sécurité intérieure (DHS) mettra fin au Statut de protection temporaire (TPS) accordé aux ressortissants haïtiens.
Selon l’avis inscrit dans le Federal Register, la secrétaire du DHS, Kristi Noem, a conclu, après consultations avec ses partenaires institutionnels, que Haïti ne répond plus aux critères légaux ouvrant droit au TPS.
D’après la communication du DHS, les analyses internes indiquent que le maintien temporaire des Haïtiens sur le territoire américain ne serait plus compatible avec l’intérêt national des États-Unis.
L’USCIS précise que la mesure prendra effet le 3 février 2026. À compter de cette date, les bénéficiaires haïtiens du TPS devront quitter le territoire américain, à moins de disposer d’un autre fondement légal leur permettant de rester dans le pays.
L’agence fédérale invite également les personnes concernées à utiliser l’application CBP-Home pour organiser leur départ volontaire. Selon l’annonce, celles et ceux qui choisiront cette procédure pourraient recevoir une allocation de 1 000 dollars destinée à faciliter leur retour, avec la possibilité de solliciter ultérieurement une entrée légale sur le territoire américain.
