L’Espagne sacrée championne d’Europe pour la quatrième fois

Ce dimanche 14 juillet 2024, l’Espagne s’adjuge son quatrième titre de championne d’Europe de football en battant difficilement l’Angleterre 2-1 en finale ce dimanche à Berlin, et devient ainsi la nation la plus titrée de l’Euro devant l’Allemagne (3).

La Roja, qui était l’équipe la plus séduisante du tournoi, a dominé la rencontre et s’est montrée plus réaliste que les Anglais. Mikel Oyarzabal a inscrit le but décisif à la 86e minute, après que Nico Williams a ouvert le score dans les premières minutes de la seconde période et que Cole Palmer a égalisé pour les Three Lions.

Comme à l’accoutumé pour l’équipe espagnole, dès les premières minutes, la Roja a pris le jeu à son compte en dominant les Three Lions. Disciplinés défensivement, avec un bloc médian très solide, les hommes de Gareth Southgate ont tenu tête à la Roja, qui n’a pas pu se créer assez d’occasions. Malgré quelques petits occasions de part et d’autre, le score du premier mi-temps de la rencontre s’est soldé sur un score nul et vierge.

Au retour des vestiaires l’Espagne s’est montrée un peu plus convaincant à l’image de cette accélération dévastatrice de Lamine Yamal, le jeune Catalan qui trouve l’ailier de l’Athletic Bilbao, Nico Williams, qui conclut parfaitement en ouvrant le score d’une frappe croisée (1-0, 47e) pour les poulains de Luis de la Fuente. L’Espagne était tout proche de faire le break une minute plus tard. Bien trouvé dans la surface par Williams, Dani Olmo croise beaucoup trop sa frappe (48e).

Dans un moment faible des espagnols, les coéquipiers de Bellingham ont profité pour revenir au score. Cole Palmer égalise pour l’Angleterre trois minutes après son entrée en jeu. Après que Saka s’est échappé côté droit, l’ailier anglais centre à ras de terre vers Bellingham, qui remis le ballon en retrait pour Palmer. L’attaquant de Chelsea déclenche une frappe puissante à ras de terre pour tromper Simon (1-1, 73e). Tout est relancé dans la finale.

Mais les espagnols ont poussé dans les derniers instants du match pour arracher la victoire. Oyarzabal s’est jeté au premier poteau et a poussé le ballon au fond des filets, après un centre de Cucurella (86e). Les quatre minutes de temps additionnels n’ont pas suffi aux anglais pour égaliser.

Du côté des récompenses individuelles, l’Espagne a tout raflé : Rodri est désigné meilleur joueur de la compétition, Olmo, meilleur buteur et enfin Yamal termine meilleur jeune joueur de la compétition.
