Liberté et protection des journalistes : Le CMEL exhorte le CPT

En raison de l’insécurité croissante et de la violence des gangs, les journalistes se retrouvent confrontés à des dangers toujours plus graves dans l’exercice de leur métier. Face à cette situation alarmante, le Collectif des Médias en Ligne (CMEL) a lancé un appel pressant au Conseil Présidentiel de Transition (CPT), exhortant les autorités à prendre des mesures immédiates pour assurer la sécurité des professionnels des médias.

Le CMEL, représenté par son coordonnateur général, Dieudonné ST CYR, et son porte-parole, Robest DIMANCHE, ont souligné l’urgence de renforcer les dispositifs de sécurité autour des journalistes. Parmi les mesures proposées figurent la mise en place d’escortes policières lors des déplacements des journalistes, notamment dans les zones les plus dangereuses, afin de réduire les risques d’agression.

En outre, le collectif insiste sur l’importance d’instaurer un système de signalement et de suivi des actes de violence contre les journalistes. Pour faciliter ce processus, le CMEL recommande la création d’une ligne téléphonique d’urgence disponible 24 heures sur 24, permettant aux travailleurs de la presse de signaler rapidement les incidents et de recevoir une assistance immédiate.

Mais la protection physique n’est pas la seule préoccupation du CMEL. Le collectif met également l’accent sur la nécessité d’une sensibilisation accrue de la population haïtienne à l’importance du rôle des journalistes et aux conséquences néfastes de la violence à leur encontre. Des campagnes de communication efficaces sont ainsi recommandées pour promouvoir le respect et la protection des journalistes en tant que garants de la démocratie et de l’information.

Enfin, le CMEL souligne l’importance du soutien psychologique et matériel pour les journalistes victimes de violences. Ces professionnels courageux, souvent traumatisés par les attaques dont ils sont victimes, ont besoin d’un soutien adéquat pour surmonter ces épreuves et continuer à exercer leur mission essentielle.

En lançant cet appel, le CMEL rappelle au Conseil Présidentiel de Transition que la liberté de la presse est un pilier fondamental de la démocratie, et que sa préservation est essentielle pour l’avenir du pays. En prenant des mesures concrètes pour protéger les journalistes, le CPT enverra un signal fort à la population et à la communauté internationale, affirmant son engagement en faveur de la protection des droits fondamentaux et de la liberté d’expression.

Ainsi, le combat pour la liberté de la presse continue, porté par la détermination du CMEL et de tous ceux qui œuvrent pour un pays où les journalistes peuvent exercer leur métier en toute sécurité, contribuant ainsi à la construction d’une société juste et éclairée.
