Médecins Sans Frontières suspend ses activités à Port-au-Prince et ses alentours

Dans une note rendue publique dans la soirée du mardi 19 novembre 2024, Médecins Sans Frontières annonce que ses activités à Port-au-Prince et ses zones avoisinantes sont suspendues. L’organisation humanitaire prend cette décision en raison de “graves menaces” dit-elle que son personnel aurait subies de la part de certains policiers.

En effet, après avoir dénoncé, il y a quelques jours, les attaques qu’une de ses ambulances aurait subies le 11 novembre dernier, l’organisation médicale annonce suspendre ses activités pour une durée indeterminée dans la Capitale à partir du 20 novembre 2024. Cette suspension subvient, selon l’organisation, après que des policiers auraient, à plusieurs reprises, menacé son personnel une semaine après l’incident du 11 novembre.

L’organisation qui oeuvre en Haïti depuis 30 ans, fait savoir, par le biais de son Chef de mission, Christopher Garnier qu’elle reconnaît que la fermeture de ses portes serait une tragédie. Toutefois, bien qu’elle est habituée à travailler dans des conditions extrêmes, elle ne le peut quand les forces de l’ordre sont elles-mêmes une menace directe.
