Seize ans après le séisme du 12 janvier 2010, Haïti commémore la mémoire des victimes tout en renouvelant l’appel à la vigilance, à la prévention et au respect des normes de construction, afin de réduire les risques et renforcer la résilience du pays face aux catastrophes sismiques.
Chaque 12 janvier, le peuple haïtien se rappelle le séisme dévastateur de 2010, qui a frappé le pays avec une magnitude de 7,3, causant la mort de plus de 300 000 personnes, des centaines de milliers de blessés et des millions de déplacés. Cet événement tragique reste un rappel de la vulnérabilité du pays face aux tremblements de terre, un phénomène naturel qu’il est impossible d’empêcher, mais dont les conséquences peuvent être limitées par des mesures de prévention et de sécurité.
Les experts ne cessent de rappeler que de nombreux dégâts ont été aggravés par la construction de maisons dans des zones à risque, comme les pentes instables, les zones inondables ou les terrains fragiles. Ils insistent sur le fait que la planification urbaine et la construction responsable sont essentielles pour protéger la vie humaine et réduire l’impact des catastrophes naturelles.
Ainsi, si le tremblement de terre reste un phénomène naturel, c’est à chacun citoyens, autorités et constructeurs de prendre les dispositions nécessaires pour limiter les pertes humaines et matérielles. Des constructions solides, le respect des normes de sécurité et une vigilance constante sont des outils indispensables pour que le pays puisse mieux affronter ces catastrophes à l’avenir.
Le 12 janvier est donc un moment pour se souvenir, mais surtout pour agir avec responsabilité et renforcer la résilience, afin de protéger les vies et bâtir un Haïti plus sûr face aux tremblements de terre.
